What are the functions of phytic acid

In early 1995, phytic acid was used clinically as a skin whitening agent. In the process of melanin formation, it works by preventing the entry of iron and copper. This antioxidant effect is important for the skin because oxidative stress can help prevent the inflammatory process associated with excessive damage to pigmentation after inflammation.

1. What is phytic acid?
Phytic acid is a plant antioxidant that can help protect your skin from sun damage while brightening dull skin tone. As a exfoliating agent, as I mentioned earlier, it prevents the synthesis of melanin in the epidermis. It is neither AHA nor BHA. Its main function is that it is like salicylic acid in a sense, helping to shrink pores. The key difference is that salicylic acid binds to keratin in the skin and softens it, while phytic acid binds to calcium in the pores and softens it. In any case, phytic acid and salicylic acid (used together or separately) can help temporarily shrink pores. It is the gentlest of all acids and is very suitable for people with sensitive skin or rosacea.

2. The role of phytic acid
Research has traditionally focused on its structure, which gives it the ability to bind minerals 1 (calcium, iron, and zinc ions), proteins, and starch, and the resulting low absorption of these elements. Phytic acid is considered an anti nutrient component in grains, seeds, and legumes. However, recent studies have shown that phytic acid has many health benefits. Phytic acid has antioxidant, anticancer, cholesterol lowering, and lipid-lowering effects.
3. The anti-cancer effect of phytic acid
In animal research, phytic acid has shown a protective effect in cancer development. This action can be explained by its mineral chelating potential. Some studies have shown that phytic acid acts as an anticancer agent by reversing the proliferation of carcinogens.
3. Applicable to patients with diabetes
Phytic acid may be beneficial to the health of patients with diabetes. It reduces blood glucose response by slowing down starch digestion and gastric emptying.
4. Other functions
Phytic acid releases inositol during digestion. Although inositol is not an essential nutrient, it can reduce depression. Research also shows that phytic acid can reduce inflammation.
